Tom manages the Port Orford Field Station and works to support research, outreach, here in Port Orford. Tom is also the Director of the Oregon Kelp Alliance, a diverse alliance of scientists, fishers, divers, conservationists and other partners working to protect and restore Oregon’s kelp forests.
Tom has a Master of Science degree in Fisheries Science from OSU, where he used acoustic telemetry to study the movement behavior of rockfishes at the nearby Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve. He also worked as a commercial diver in Oregon’s red sea urchin fishery aboard the F/V Mach I. T In his free time, he enjoys kayaking, fishing, surfing, and diving the waters around Port Orford.
