Carl came aboard the Oregon Kelp Alliance as the Administrative and Program Assistant in fall 2024, where he works on a wide range of ORKA projects. He particularly enjoys field work and scuba diving as well as public engagement and education. Before joining ORKA, he was a 2022-2024 NOAA Coastal Management Fellow with the Oregon Coastal Management Program. In that role, he worked with communities in Clatsop County to address the impacts of sea level rise through community mapping workshops and talking to students along the coast. He attended San Francisco State University for his MS, studying the effect of engineered oyster reefs on eelgrass restoration in San Francisco Bay. He went to undergrad at UC Berkeley and played for the Cal Varsity Rugby team.

He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now lives in Corvallis, Oregon, with his partner, dog, and chickens. He can often be found gardening, running the dog, skiing, mountain biking, or surfing.
